Chama Kay.

The Client & Brief: Chama Kay is a multi-disciplinary creative freelancer specialising in marketing, photography, and writing. Designing this brand identity presented the unique challenge of unifying three distinct services under a single visual mark. The objective was to create a modern, energetic brand identity that instantly communicates creativity, adaptability, and clear communication across both print and digital platforms.

Design Evolution & Solution: The design concept bridges visual elements from all three core disciplines into a unified symbol. Starting with the circular form of a camera lens, the aperture line was extended and tapered to mirror a speech bubble, directly referencing storytelling, engagement, and social media marketing. A structural break on the right side opens space for the wordmark ("CHAMA KAY"), while the three parallel concentric lines echo the lined ruling of a writer’s notebook. This multi-layered icon combines photography, digital marketing, and copywriting into a singular visual narrative.

Typography & Colour: The brand utilises a clean, light-weight sans-serif typeface set in capital letters. Its open proportions and high legibility keep the mark sophisticated and contemporary, allowing the graphic frame to anchor the composition. The core color strategy pairs a high-contrast monochrome version with a warm coral and blush gradient palette. The solid black execution provides a timeless, editorial aesthetic, while the coral palette adds vibrant, creative energy for digital touchpoints.

Social Media & Brand Adaptations

The Adaptation Strategy: To ensure brand consistency across various applications—such as social media profile avatars, website headers, and watermarks—the identity system includes dedicated logo marks and standalone wordmarks.

Key Changes:

  • Standalone Icon (Logo Mark): By removing the wordmark, the speech-bubble camera icon functions as an energetic, instantly recognisable brand avatar for Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.

  • Secondary Wordmark: A clean version of the "CHAMA KAY" text provides a refined option for formal documents, footers, or editorial placements where the full mark isn't required.

  • Palette Versatility: Both full-color and solid black variants were created to ensure seamless integration across light, dark, and image-heavy backgrounds.
